The SECOND ASHES TEST SERIES are set to get underway! All the action starts on 3 December, so we suggest you get ready for some serious beery bondage.

For those who have been lucky enough to book your hostel in Adelaide, we’ve put together an Adelaide Ashes city guide on where to watch the match, how to get around and what to do once all the action is over.

So, whether you’re vouching for a Barmy Army victory, or want the Aussie underdogs to shine, why not check it out, plan your trip and prepare for some serious sporting celebrations Down Under!

3-7 December at Adelaide Oval

The Adelaide Oval is a 10-minute walk from Adelaide Station via the River Torrens pathway. You can also catch a bus from King William Road.

Adelaide’s vast array of sports bars will be your beery, burly, bloke-filled haven during the Ashes. Check out a few of our favourites.

PJ O’Briens: It’s the Barmy Army’s official headquarters for the 2010/2011 Ashes Tour! There’s something for everyone at this authentic Irish pub – live bands, sporting screens, trivia, great steaks and the best Guinness in town. Head down for ‘Thank Guinness it’s Friday Happy Hour’ complete with live Irish entertainment, or get stuck into a $12 (€8.81) ‘Chicken Parmy’ for lunch or dinner on Wednesday. Free buses will be running from the Adelaide Oval to PJ’s each day after the cricket. 14 East Terrace, Adelaide.

With 6 mega screens and 25 TV screens plus sports betting, pokies and bistro dining, it’s the ultimate Ashes after-party destination. 160 Hindley St, Adelaide.

The Brecknock: Unpretentious, old-school and very, very Irish. The Brecknock Hotel is Adelaide’s original Irish pub, situated a short bus trip away from Adelaide Oval on King William Rd. The establishment proudly remains South Australia’s number one Guinness selling outlet, and imperial pints are available for only $6 (€4.40). Come to watch the match on one of their massive flat screens while feasting on some traditional pub grub. 401 King William St, Adelaide.

The Cathedral: Barmy Army supporters will be praying for victory at The Cathedral Hotel, located right next door to the Adelaide Oval. Head here for an early post-Ashes meal in the Bistro Dining area, which will be serving up everything from fresh pasta to Atlantic salmon and traditional fish and chips. 45 Kermode St, Adelaide.

One of the most popular pubs in Adelaide, The Archer is located just five minutes stroll from Adelaide Oval. Once here, head direct to the Larrikins Bar, which features a range of plasma screens, 13 beers on tap, an extensive wine list and North Adelaide’s best 8-ball room. 60 O’Connell St, Adelaide.

The London Tavern: A pub with the word ‘London’ in the name, located just minutes walk from Adelaide oval? Expect those Barmy Army supporters to flock here in droves! Situated opposite the cosmopolitan North Terrace, the London provides an all-new entertainment experience, complete with 170 person restaurant, night club and gaming room. Watch the game on one of 7 massive LCD screens while munching down on the homemade ‘London Burger’ complete with beef, bacon, cheese, caramelised onion and chilli-plum sauce. 175 North Terrace, Adelaide.

Want a break from the beer? Learn about making (and drinking!) wine at the National Wine Centre of Australia. Nothing will cheer you up more if England has lost a few wickets!

Don Bradman Statue 300x225 The Ashes 2010: Adelaide City GuideCricket lovers simply cannot miss a trip to the Bradman Collection Museum, which now forms part of Adelaide Oval. The collection follows Sir Don Bradman’s progress from club cricketer to international hero, with photographs, menus, newspaper cuttings, balls, trophies, clothing and even personal scrapbooks. Admission is free.

Ale enthusiasts could also take a tour of Coopers Brewery in Regency Park. Starting in the beer museum, visitors will be taken through virtually every step of beer and homebrew production. Of course, you’ll also be more than welcome to participate in a tasting of Coopers ales, stouts and lagers!

Head down for a morning at the ultimate foodie destination – Adelaide Central Market! Now celebrating 141 years in operation, it continues to stock an amazing array of fresh produce – from meats to seafood, fruit, oil, exotic cheese and fine wine.
